SERMON: THE ETERNAL WORD John 1.1 - 18
THE
ETERNAL WORD
TEXT: John 1.1 - 18
Introduction:: We have four Gospels
protraying the life of
Jesus Christ
from four different points of view:
Matthew, portrays Christ as the King;
Mark
portrays Christ as the Servant;
Luke portrays Christ as the Son of Man,
while
John portrays Christ
as the Son of God.
ead of Jesus Christ
is presented in
clear view
T.itus 2.13. “Looking for
that blessed hope,
and the glorious appearing
of the great God
and Saviour
Jesus Christ”
We shall consider two things about the deity
of Jesus Christ:
CHRIST IS THE
ETERNAL WORD. V. 1 - 13
A. He
was IN THE BEGINNING and eternal. The Lord Jesus Christ had no beginning. He was with God.
Showing
his separate person
of the Godhead in relation
to the other persons of the
Godhead,
He was in the beginning.
This
indicates time
preceding all things.
Micah 5.2 “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah,
though thou be little
among
thousands of Judah, yet out of thee
shall he come forth unto me
that is to
be ruler in Israel:
whose goings forth have been
from everlasting.”
He was the WORD. v. 1, 14.
This refers
to the second person of
the Trinity -
Revelation 1.8 “I am alpha and omega,
the beginning and the
ending,
saith the LORD
which is, and which was, and which is to come,
the
Almighty. the Word shows us this:
The Medium of manifestation:
He manifested
– declared -
Showed us the Invisible God.
The Means of communication:
He communicated
the Love of God to us.
The
Method of revelation:
He revealed God to
us by His Life.
Jesus revealed the
Knowledge
of the One True God.
John 17.3. “ And this is life eternal,
that they
might know thee
the only true God
and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
John 14.9
“Jesus saith unto him,
Have I been so long time with you,
and yet hast
thou not known me,
Philip? He that hath
seen me hath seen the Father;
and how sayest thou, then,
Shew us the Father?”
2
Cor. 4.6 For God, who commanded
the
light to shine out of darkness,
hath shined in our hearts,
to give the light of
the knowledge
of the glory of God
in the face of Jesus Christ.”
Jesus Christ is the Creator of
the Universe.
v.3
Colossians 1. 16 –17. “For by him
were all things created, that are in heaven ,
and that are are on earth, visible
or Invisible,
whether they be thrones or
dominions,
or principalities or
powers:
all things were created by him,
and for himL and he is before all
things,
and by him all things
consist.”
This passage in John
brings
out the absolute Deity
of Jesus Christ.
None
but God can create.
Jesus is the Light to mankind, to all
men. v. 4 – 5.
Jesus is the Fountain of Life – the Life giver.
He is the Light to all men.
All are held accountable or held
morally
enlightened by Jesus Christ
Romans
2. 15. For not the hearers of law
are
just before God,
but the doers of the law
shall be justified.
By nature, all men are spiritual dead.
Romans 3.23 For all have sinned,
and come
short of the glory of God.
Eph. 2.1 – 3. And you hath
he quickened who were dead
in traspasses and sins:
2. wherein in time past ye walked
according to
thecourse of the world,
according to the prince of the
power of the air, the
spirit
that now worketh
in the children of disobedience:
3. among whom also we
all had
our conversation in times past
in the lusts of our flesh,
fulfilling
the desires of the flesh
and of the mind;
and were by nature
the children of
wrath.”
The Law Demands
Righteousness from men. v.14 – 17.
Grace brings righteousness to men.
The Law sentences a living man to death,
but Grace brings Life to a dead man.
Law brings the knowledge of Sin;
Grace puts away the sin.
Law brought God out to man,
but Grace brings
men to God.
CHRIST revealed the FATHER. v.18
No man hath seen God at any time;
the only begotten Son,
which is in the
bosom of the Father,
he hath declared him.”
Christ declared
the Father.
When a ship is
being loaded,
a crate must show “declaration”
which mean the contents
are manifested to those
loading the boat.
Christ
manifested declared
THE FATHER GOD
is fully revealed in Jesus Christ.
I John 1. 5 – 7 v.5.
This then is the message
which we have
heard of him,
that God is light, and in
him
s no darkness at all.
V.6. If we say that we have fellowship with him,
and
walk in darkness, we lie,
and do not the truth.
But if we walk in the light,
as
he is in the light,
we have fellowship
one with another,
and the blood of Jesus
Christ
His Son cleanseth us from all Sin.
In closing,
For those who have not received Him,
do receive CHRIST as your Savior,
John 1.12
As many as received him,
to them gave he power to become
the sons of
God, even to them
that believe on his name.
For those
who have already received Christ,
I
ask you to place your life in His hands.
He is able, He is willing.
Philippians
4.13 I can do all things
through Christ
which strengtheneth me.
John 14.6 I AM THE WAY,
THE TRUTH,
AND THE LIFE,
NO MAN COMETH UNTO
THE FATHER,
BUT
BY
ME.
