Learning How to Walk With God
Doing God's will should be our primary concern.
We should depend upon divine direction
Proverbs 16.3
COMMIT THY WAY
UNTO THE LORD,
AND
THY THOUGHTS
SHALL BE ESTABLISHED.
The leading of the Lord is the guidance that the
Holy Spirit gives those He controls to applying the
Word of God to the circumstances of life.
Romans. 6.14 For as many as are led
by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.
Psalm 119.105 Thy word is a lamp unto
my feet, and a light unto my path.
The Bible must interpret our experience
instead of our experience interpreting the
Bible.
Example: Marriage.
1 Cor. 7.39 The wife is bound by the law
as long as her husband liveth, but if her
husband is dead, she is at liberty to be
married to whom she will; only in the
Lord.
Matthew 19.4 - 6. The Pharisees came
unto Jesus, tempting him, and saying,
Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife
for every cause? And he answered and
said, Have ye not read, that he which
made them in the beginning, made them
male and female? And said, For this
cause shall a man leave his father and
his mother, and shall cleave to his wife,
and they shall be one flesh. Wherefore
they are no more twain, but one flesh,
What therefore God hath joined together,
let not man put asunder."
In verse 16, the disciples say unto him,
if the case be so with his wife, it is not
good to marry. Jesus answers in
verse 11 and 12 " All men cannot receive
this saying, save they to whom it is given.
For there are sone eunichs which were
so born from their mother's wombs,
and some eunuchs were mad eunuchs
of men; and there be eunuchs which
have mad themselves to be eunuchs for
the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that
is able to receive it, let him receive it.
When asking God about marriage, we must
consider what Scripture teaches about it,
We cannot expect God to bless us unless we
are obeying His Word on the matter of
marrying.
A major truth the Bible teaches is that
we cannot expect God to bless us if we
are choosing to go against what His word
teaches.
In times past, God spoke to people and
directed them. Joseph with his dreams, kept
faithful in being sold into Egypt, being a
slave in Potiphor's house, and imprisoned,
he walked with God. He did not get bitter,
but trusted God.
Moses with God as God spoke to him,
by getting his attention with a Burning
Bush that did not consume. God gave Moses
direct command to lead out the people from
Egypt. Exodus chapter 3.
God sometimes used other ways to lead
people. When God led the people in the
wilderness, he led them with a Pillar
of cloud by day and a cloud by night.
They knew as long as the Pillar hovered
still - they were also to be still. When the
Cloud moved - they were also to move.
Hebrews 1.1 - 3
"God, who at sundry times, and in divers
manners, spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by
His Son, whom He hath appointed heir
of all things, by whom also he made the
worlds, who being the brightness of His
glory, and the express image of His person,
and upholding all things by the word of
his power, when h himself had purged
our sins, sat down on the right hand of
the majesty on high."
Today we are led on the basis of what
God's Word says.
Romans 8.14 As many as are led by
the Spirit of God are the sons of God.
John 14.26 Jesus promised "but
the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,
whom the Father will send in my name;
He shall teach you all things, and
bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said to you.
Think of it !
Jesus was telling them that after He
was taken, crucified, buried, and rise again,
the Holy Ghost (the Holy Spirit) would
be sent by the Father to dwell in them, and
lead and teach them, given His words to
them and never leave them.
Today we have the words of the Gospels
written for us, the word of the Epistles - the
letters the Apostles' wrote, and the entire
books of the New Testament were completed
before the First Century was finished.
Ephesians 5.16 tells us "pray without
ceasing."
As you read God's Word - ask God
to show you His Will through His Word.
God will never lead us to do
anything that His Word teaches is
sinful, or wrong.
God will never lead us to do
anything contrary to the express
stated written Word.
When the Word of God speaks,
it means what it says,
it says what it means,
And if we properly take in it
the context - we will understand
it.
The Holy Ghost will never lead us
except in harmony with the Scriptures.
Isaiah 55.8 For my thoughts are
not your thoughts; neither are your
ways my ways, saith the LORD.
THINGS WE ARE TO DO.
John 14.15 - 16
If you love me, keep my commandments,
And I will pray the Father, and He shall give
you another Comforter, that he may abide
with you for ever.
John 13.33,34 A new commandment I
give unto you, that ye love one another,
as I have loved you, that ye also love
one another. By this shall all men
know ye are my disciples, if ye have
love one to another.
Romans 12. 1 I beseech you, therefore,
brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy, acceptable unto God, which is your
reasonable service.
Ephesians 5.16 And be not drunk
with wine, wherein is excess, but be
filled with the Spirit.
Hebrews 10.25 Not forsaking the
assembling of yourselves together,
as the manner of some is, but
exhorting one another to provoke
unto love and to good works.
THINGS WE ARE NOT TO DO
We are to continue being identified
with believers in a local church -
A church is not the building but
the people - and to assemble where
two or three are gathered in my
name, there Jesus will be with us
as meet, pray, and worship. As
God permits we are to keep on
meeting.
Hebrews 10.25 "Forsake not the
asseblying of yourselves together, as the
manner of some is, but exhorting one
another to provoke unto love and
to good works.
So do not be discouraged.
When circumstances are difficult,
God wants us to trust Him in it, being
patient.
Ephesians 4.25 and 28
Wherefore putting away lying, speak
every man truth with his neighbour, for we
are members one of another; Let him that
stole, steal no more: but rather let him
labour, working with his hands the thing
which is good, that he may have to give
to him that needeth.
Another thing we must not do :
Do not be conformed to this world.
Romans 12.2 And be not conformed
to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that ye
may prove what is that good and acceptable
and perfect will of God.
God's will is seen in His Principles
laid down for us in His Word.
Colossians 4.5 Walk in wisdom towards
those that are without, redeeming the
time.
Walk in wisdom.
Proverbs 1.23 Turn ye at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my Spirit unto you, I will make
known my words unto you.
Run the Race in patience
Hebrews 12.1 Wherefore seeing we
are compassed about with so great a cloud
of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset
us, and let us run with patience the race
that is set before us.
Be Totally Committed
I Cor. 10.31 Whether therefore ye
eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do
all to the glory of God.
Count Yourself as Alive to God
Romans 6.11 Reckon ye also yourselves
to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive
unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Trust the mystery of God
and of the Father
and of Christ,
for all my guidance by
hiding in the truths of His Word.
Colossians 2.3 IN WHOM ARE HID
ALL THE TREASURES OF WISDOM
AND KNOWLEDGE.
When God's Word
we obey in what we DO know,
Often God then shows us
our Next step.
God's Great Commission
is to everyone. It is the
Command of Christ to
the Church. This is why
Believers need each other,
for we are to GO.
All power is given unto me
in heaven and in earth; Go
ye, therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father, and of
the Son and of the Holy Ghost,
teaching them to observe all
things that I have commanded
you, and, lo, I am with you
alway, even unto the end of
the world. Amen.
Wisdom and guidance will only
come as we obey His Word, His will
let His Spirit lead us day by day,
all the way.
Until He comes to TAKE US HOME
we are to be ready to serve, ready
to cheerfully endure, and to readily
share the Gospel with whosoever
will hear.
Colossians 3.15
And let the peace of God rule in your
hearts, to the which also ye are
called in one body, and be ye
thankful.
Teach Me Thy Way, O Lord
by B. Ramsell Ramsey
(1849 - 1923)
Teach me thy way, O Lord,
Teach my thy way.
Thy guiding grace afford,
Teach me thy way.
Help me to walk aright,
More by faith, less by sight;
Lead me with heav'nly light,
Teach me thy way.
When I am sad at heart,
Teach me thy way;
When earthly joys depart,
Teach me thy way;
In hours of loneliness,
In times of deep distress,
Teach me thy way.
When doubts and fears arise,
Teach me thy way;
When storms oerspread the skies,
teach me thy way...
Shine through the cloud and rain,
Thru sorrow, toil, and pain
Make thou my pathway plain,
Teach me thy way.
Long as my life shall last,
Teach me thy way;
Where'er my lot is cast,
Teach me thy way...
Until the race is run,
Until the Journey's done,
Until the Crown is won,
Teach me thy way.
II TIMOTHY 3.16
And without controversy
great is the mystery
of godliness: God was
manifest in the flesh;
justified in the Spirit;
seen of angels;
preached unto
the Gentiles;
believed on in the world;
and received up
into glory.
Acts 4.12
Neither is there salvation
in any other: for there is
none other name
under heaven
given among men
whereby we must
be saved.
