GOD’S LOVE

I JOHN 3.1 – 3
INTRODUCTION:
The Apostle John is called the Beloved Apostle.
He wrote of God’s love in both
the Gospel and his Epistles.
He is the Diciple whom Jesus loves.
John 13.23; 19.26; 20.2

I John 3.1 – 3
3.1 Behold, what manner of love
the Father hath bestowed upon us,
that we should be called the sons of God:
therefore the world knoweth us not,
because it knew him not.
.2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God,
and it doth not yet appear
what we shall be, but we know that,
when he shall appear,
we shall be like him,
for we shall see him as he is.
3.3 And every man
that hath this hope in him
purifieth himself,
even as He is pure.
John 8.12
"I am the light of the world, he
that followeth me shall not
walk in darkness, but shall
have the light of life."
It is the AGAPE –
divine love of God – that God gives.
And it is the same AGAPE love
we are to show to each other.
Romans 5.8 But God
commandeth his love loward us,
in that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us.
First: GOD’S LOVE – THE PAST TENSE OF HIS LOVE.
CONSIDER:. God’s
Love Was Bestowed Upon us.
I John 3. 1
a.BEHOLD - Whenever God’s
Word uses the word BEHOLD
it is a COMMAND
to look intently and consider
as important and worthy
of our time:
TAKE A CLOSE LOOK.
B. "SONS OF GOD" – that we should
be called the Sons of God.
God not only has given us SPIRITUAL BIRTH
into his family, he has
ALSO ADOPTED US as His Legal Sons
with all the RIGHTS of a son.
In the Roman Empire –
only an adopted Son
could receive the rights of inheritance.
Being born into the family
only made one a child of the father.
Adoption made the
child a SON.
ROMANS 8.15 – 17
15. For ye have not received
the spirit of bondage again to fear,
but ye have received
the Spirit of adoption,
whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16. The Spirit itself
beareth witness with our spirit,
that we are the children of God.
17. And if children, then , heirs,
heirs of God,
and joint heirs with Christ:
if so be that we suffer with him,
that we may be also glorified together.
I John 5.11
And this is the record,
that God hath
given to us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son.
I John 5.12.
He that hath the Son hath life,
and he that hath not
the Son of God hath not life.
B. WE
BECOME A CHILD OF GOD BY
THE NEW BIRTH.
John 3. 1 – 7
1. There was a man of the Pharisees
named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2. The same came to Jesus by night,
and said unto him, Rabbi, we know
that thou art a teacher, come from God,
for no man can do these miracles
that thou doest, except God be with him.
3. Jesus answered and said unto him,
Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born again,
he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4. Nicodemus saith unto him,
How can a man be born when he is old?
Can he enter the second time
Into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5. Jesus answered, Verily,verily,
I say unto thee, Except a man
be born of water and the Spirit,
he cannot enter into
he kingdom of God.
6. That which is born of the flesh
is flesh; and that which is
born of the Spirit is spirit,
7. Marvel not that I say unto thee,
Ye must
be born again.
We all have a physical birth.
To enter heaven,
we need a NEW BIRTH
WE MUST BE BORN AGAIN.
THE PRSENT TENSE OF HIS LOVE.
WE HAVE IT NOW. IT IS OUR POSSESSION.
A. We are NOW sons of God.
I John 3.2
Beloved, now
are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet
appear what we shall be
but we know that when
he shall appear, we shall be like him,
for we
shall see him as he is.
B. WE
CAN BE SURE OF OUR SALVATION.
I JOHN 5.11.12,13
And this is the record,
that God hath given to us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life,
and he that hath not
the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written
unto you that believe on the
name of the son of God,
that ye may know
that ye have eternal life,
and that ye may believe
on the name of
the Son of God.”
CONSIDER:
GOD SPEAKS OF EVERLASTING LIFE
AS A PRESENT POSSESSION -
IT BEGINS THE MOMENT
WE ARE BORN AGAIN.
JOHN 3. 16
FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD
THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON
THAT WHOSOEVER
BELIEVETH IN HIM,
SHOULD NOT PERISH,
BUT HAVE
EVERLASTING LIFE
JOHN 5.24
Verily, verily, I say unto you,
He that heareth my word,
and believeth on him that sent me
hath everlasting life,
and shall not come
into condemnation;
but is passed from
death unto life.
Our privilege and our responsibility
is to purify
our selves
even as He is pure.
As Sons, we are responsible
to do the Father’s Will,
and to be submissive to the Father,
even as Jesus
was submissive to His Father.
John 5.30
“I can of mine own self
do nothing:
as I hear, I judge,
and my judgment
is just: because
I seek not mine own will,
but the will of the Father
which sent me.
John 6.38
For I came down from heaven,
not to do mine own will,
ut the will of him that sent me. “
As Sons of the Father, we are to obey the
Father’s will. ROMANS
8.14,15
14. “For as many
as are led by the Spirit of God,
they are the sons of God.
15. For ye have not received
the spirit of bondage again to fear:
but ye have received the Spirit of adoption,
whereby we cry, Abba Father.”
What child does not say
to his beloved Father,
Daddy, My Daddy!
Abba in Jesus' day meant
the endearing cry of
a child for its father.
CONSIDER: GOD’S LOVE IS FULLY GOD’S LOVE –
NOTHING ON
OUR PART DESERVES HIS LOVE.
IT IS THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST
AND HIS FINISHED WORK
ON THE CROSS
WHICH PROVIDES GOD’S LOVE TO US.
I John 2.2
And he is the propitiation
for our sins,
and not for our sins only,
but for the sins
of the whole world.
THIRD: GOD’S LOVE –
THE FUTURE TENSE
OF HIS LOVE.
1 John 3.2
“when he
shall appear, we shall be like him,
or we shallsee him as he is.”
Philippians 1.6 being confident
of this very thing that he that
hath begun a good work in you
shall perform it until
the day of Christ.
GOD’S ULTIMATE GOAL IS THAT WE ARE TO BE IN
THE LIKENESS OF JESUS.
Romans 8.28-29
For we know that all things
Work together for good
To those that love God,
To them who are the called
According to his purpose
For whom he did foreknow
He also did predestinate
To be conformed
To the image
Of his Son, that
He might be the firstborn
Among many brethren.
TITUS 3.5
Not by works of righteousness
which we have done,
but according to his mercy
he saved us,
by the washing of regeneration,
and renewing of the Holy Ghost.
WHEN WE ARE
BORN INTO GOD’S FAMILY,
WE LOVE AS CHRIST LOVED,
AND WE ARE TO GIVE OUR LIVES
MANIFESTING HIS LOVE
WITH WHICH HE LOVED US.
ROMAN 5. 8 – 9
But God commandeth his love toward us,
in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us, much more then,
being now justified by his blood,
we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Romans 5.1 – 8
1. Therefore being justified by faith,
we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2. By whom also we have access
by faith into this grace
wherein we stand,
and rejoice in hope
of the glory of God.
3. And not only so,
but we glory in tribulations
also knowing that tribulation
worketh patience,
4. And patience, experience,
and experience,
hope.
5. And hope maketh not ashamed,
because the love of God is
spread abroad in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost
which is given
unto us.
6. For when we were yet
without strength,
in
due time Christ died for the ungodly;
7. For scarecely for a righteous man
will one die: yet peradventure,
for a good man some would
even dare to die.
8. But God commandeth
His Love toward us in
that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.
LET US THEN, REJOICE IN GOD’S LOVE.
BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVED,
WE LOVE HIM.
AND WE
LOVE EACH OTHER.
I John 4.19
WE LOVE HIM, BECAUSE
HE FIRST LOVED US.
If we are to manifest the love of
Christ in our lives, we must
give our all to Him today.
Romans 13.9,10
9.For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery,
Thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal,
thou shalt not bear false witness,
thou shall not covet;
and if there be any other commandment,
it is briefly comprehended in this saying,
namely, Thou shall love thy neighbour as thyself.
10. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour:
therefore love
is the fulfilling of the law.
Romans 5.5
And hope maketh not ashamed,
Because the love of God is
Spread abroad in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost
which is given unto us.
how will I ever know?
if no one shares that
God loves me
I will never know.
I thank the Lord
that someone came
to tell me God loves me,
and now
I share it here
to Thee.
